Ryan Ziels
Assistant Professor
Civil Engineering
Faculty of Applied Science
Dr. Ziels is an assistant professor in Civil Engineering, and an associated faculty in Genome Sciences and Technology, at the University of British Columbia. His research interests lie in the intersection of microbial biotechnology and the food-water-energy nexus. His group focuses on engineered systems that harness the vast potential of microorganisms to help us reach the Sustainable Development Goal #6 (providing clean water and sanitation for all). The Ziels research group uses next-generation DNA, RNA, and protein sequencing tools to better understand the workings of microbial communities within engineered treatment systems.
